What is the Banking on YOUth Grant Program?

The Banking on YOUth Grant Program awards individual classroom grants to certified Quincy and Palmyra public and parochial school teachers (PreK-12) to fund special projects and programs that expand and enhance the learning experience of all students.

How Will Banking on YOUth Grants Be Awarded?

An advisory board reviews applications and award grants.  A point system is used to review applications based on the innovation, creativity, and potential impact on students.  Applications receiving the highest scores in each grant category are eligible for funding.

How Many Grants Will Be Awarded?

At least one grant (maximum $500) will be awarded in each of the following categories for a total of six annual Banking on YOUth Grant award opportunities.

  • Arts & Humanities
  • Health & Fitness (Paul Arndt Grant)
  • Books & Materials
  • Science & Technology
  • Field Trip & Transportation
  • Special Initiatives

While an application may include elements related to multiple categories, all applications must designate the best overall category for which it is to be considered.  If there are not any applications in a given category that meet all required criteria, funds will then be awarded in a different category, maintaining a minimum of six total grants. 

What Types Of Projects and Activities Will Be Funded?  

Grant programs must complement major school district goals and enhance school, departmental, and grade level plans.  The Banking on YOUth program is designed to reach a broad range of students.  Grant programs should also encourage student participation and broaden their classroom and community involvement and/or may develop alternative and effective methods of learning life skills.

Are There Certain Types of Programs Or Activities That Will Not Be Funded?

Yes, items such as general operating expenses, fundraising events, professional development, scholarships, and building campaigns will not receive funding through the Banking on YOUth program.

Who Is Eligible To Apply For Banking on YOUth Grants?

All certified Quincy and Palmyra public and parochial school teachers, PreK-12 are eligible.  This includes all early childhood, elementary, and secondary education teachers.

How Do Teachers Apply for the Banking on YOUth Grants?

Visit our website at mercantilebk.com/bank-youth-grants/banking-youth-application.  Please note that all grant proposals submitted must be completed on the form provided.  Applications received in other formats will not be considered.  Please contact us at 217-223-7300 if you need assistance with the application process.  

When Are Grant Applications Due?

Grant applications for the 2024-25 academic year were accepted online through 11:59 p.m. CDT on April 24, 2024. 

How Are Grant Awards Announced?

Awards will be announced in May, before the school year end so that teachers may integrate their funded activities in the upcoming 2024-25 academic year.  Recipients will receive their awards during special school presentations.
